The Flechette Heater is a ranged weapon that resembles an Old World shotgun/rifle. Unlike bow-guns, which combine the the cables of a crossbow like weapon with a hammer to fire a projectile, the Flechette Heater is a gas operated device that uses internal pressure to heat and launch thick, glowing, metallic flechets.
Flechettes can be crafted using Scrap Metal Ingots at a smithing station.
It was designed by early United Coast explorers late in the first era of isolation, seeking a cost effective way to hunt Puffers and other air-born faunna.
The Flechette Heater has since become less popular among United Coast traders/guardsmen since the advent of longer range bow-guns, however it has remained a symbol of early colonial successes by the UC, and has stayed popular with explorers in need of effective mid-range fire power. It is often seen being worn by mountain slavers and travelling/popup merchants.
